Their products are always so innovative...it's almost as if they know what I need in a product before I do! | Qualifications | International Baccalaureate Diploma. Currently studying towards BSc Accounting and Finance at the University of Southampton. | Why did you do an internship? | Having had hardly any previous work experience, I felt an internship would help my CV stand out to prospective employers. I wasn't entirely sure about what I want to do after university, and I felt an internship would give me the practical experience to help me decide which industry I want to go into after university. | What does your internship involve? | I was working as a Marketing intern for a design consultancy. In this role, I had to write website and blog critiques for clients, which allowed me to learn about online marketing and SEO. I also increased the visibility of the business on different social media platforms, and got an insight in to B2B and B2C marketing. | Your favourite part of your internship? | Working with a group of sociable people who are always up for a chat and a laugh. Not to mention being able to use Facebook and Twitter whilst working...doesn't get more comfortable than that! | Any advice for future interns? | Take any opportunity that comes your way during your internship. I was sceptical at first about writing website critiques, but realised afterwards that it was a helpful task, and helped me learn a lot about online marketing and SEO. If you feel you're not benefiting/gaining anything from a role, tell your employer. An internship is meant to be mutually beneficial for both the intern and the employer, so make sure you're actually developing the skills you want as your internship progresses. | Describe yourself in three words | Creative, friendly, sociable. | | If you have any questions about Shaun's internship, contact him via Twitter: @shaun92fern | | | | | | | | | Increase in unemployed graduates, survey suggests Almost 28% of UK graduates who left university in 2007 were still not in full-time work three and a half years later, figures have suggested. The figure, based on 49,065 graduate responses, includes about 21 % who were working part-time or studying and 3.5% who gave their response as "other". Click here to read on... | | | | | | |
