David Cameron accepted the number of young people out of work was "unacceptably high", but defends his Government's efforts to tackle unemployment. As it happened, I found I really enjoyed working in an office environment, despite initially maintaining that I would never be that type of worker. | What skills did you learn during your internship? | I worked in a sales team for a travel company for three months, so I was learnt to work under pressure to deliver good work fast. I became much more comfortable with working to time constraints, learnt a great deal about the travel industry from a company perspective as opposed to simply travelling myself, and decided it's definitely a career I could see myself in the future. | Your favourite part of your internship? | I really enjoyed feeling like I had true responsibility (I definitely did - this was not a tea making, clock watching internship!) and immediately being part of the team. When I was asked for work and could deliver it promptly without issue, then I really felt like I'd gained a foothold in a field I previously knew nothing about. | Any advice for future interns? | If you want to find out more about a particular career path that you're interested in but don't have much experience in, definitely go for short term internships with a company. Make sure they at least pay travel expenses, and decide beforehand if you're comfortable with not being paid minimum wage. Ultimately, make sure you'll be getting enough out of the experience because you're not getting paid - if you don't like what you're doing, tell someone and make changes. | Describe yourself in three words | Creative, sociable & adventurous. | | | | | | | | | Universities to pay cash incentives to attract students Universities will pay cash incentives of up to £3,000 to bright sixth formers in an "arms race" for high-quality students. Institutions across the country, including City University London, and Leicester, Surrey and Northumbria universities, are introducing payments to attract candidates with the best exam grades.
